Bail

A believable reason to leave any call.

Stuck on a call that won't end? Bail plays a believable knock, doorbell, barking dog or ringing phone, so you have a reason to go.

macOS

Features

Eight believable sounds

A door knock, a doorbell, a door buzzer, a vase breaking, a barking dog, kids fighting and a ringing phone. Add your own under My Sounds.

One shortcut per sound

⌃⌥1 to ⌃⌥8 work from any app, and pressing a shortcut again stops its sound.

Rescue timer

Before the call starts, arm a timer for 1, 5 or 10 minutes (or a time of your own). When it runs out, your sounds start playing.

Escalation

Sounds play one after another, each a few seconds after the last. For example, a knock, then the doorbell, then the dog, then the phone.

Incoming-call banner

While the phone rings, a realistic call alert appears from a name you choose. It stays visible when you share your screen.

Floating pad

While your microphone is on, a small pad of sound buttons sits beside your call.

Choose where it plays

Send the sounds to your Mac's built-in speakers (the default) or any other audio output.

How it works

  1. Bail lives in your Mac's menu bar.
  2. Before or during a call, click a sound, press its shortcut, or arm the rescue timer.
  3. Bail plays the sound out loud, through your Mac's built-in speakers by default, so the others on the call hear it too, even when you're wearing headphones.

FAQ

Will the people on the call actually hear it?

Yes. By default Bail plays through your Mac's built-in speakers, so your microphone picks the sound up like a real knock at the door, even when you're wearing headphones. You can also choose which audio output Bail plays through, under Play through in its settings.

Zoom didn't pick up the sound. Why?

Zoom's background noise suppression can filter Bail's sounds out as noise. In Zoom's audio settings, set Background noise suppression to Low.

Which call apps does it work with?

Any call app that uses your microphone. Bail doesn't connect to the call app at all: it plays the sound out loud in your room, and your microphone picks it up like any other sound.

Can I use my own sounds?

Yes. Add recordings under My Sounds and give them their own shortcut, volume and loop setting.

What Macs does it run on?

macOS 12 Monterey or later.
